More Rain … and Stacy!

We started our Thursday with more rain.  It wasn’t quite a thunderstorm this morning, but it was still too much to go out and enjoy a beach.  Instead, we ate a small breakfast, ran to get a soda, and watched some Disney channel while I finished writing Wednesday’s post.

To the Bar!

Once Amy’s friend Stacy arrived, we decided to get some lunch while the sky tried to decide if it was going to keep raining or not. So, we packed up to look for a good place to eat. The first place we looked at was Peg Leg Pete’s, which was just down the street from us. It turned out to have an hour wait, and we just weren’t going to do that. and headed to the Paradise Inn Bar and Grill.  This was an old-school cinderblock walled motel from the 1950’s or 1960’s that had used the parking lot to build a makeshift bar.  The bar grew better than the motel did and was now the prime attraction.

We had heard from a professional soccer sideline judge from Pensacola that the Paradise Inn had the best burger on the island.  We were here to test this theory.  I ordered the ½ pound burger – medium, without the salad on top.  Amy and Stacy ordered a ¼ pound burger – medium well.  When the burgers arrived, the waitress came over to make sure they were made correctly because they had just got a new group of Jamaicans.  Mine still had the salad on top but that was ok if it was cooked right – and it was.

By the time I was finished with the burger, it had cooked to a medium-well, but it stayed so juicy and tasty.  It was a well-deserved title of the best burger on the island.  The fries weren’t too shabby either, but those are just to finish filling you up if you aren’t full.  I was full.

Sun Sand and Surf

After lunch, we felt the rain had almost let up enough to go try the beach. It was still slightly sprinkling, but that wasn’t enough to stop us. The girls enjoyed some more time on the boogie boards while Amy and Stacy talked and talked while I snoozed and drank a few beers.

We returned to our seaside condominium and bid Stacy good-bye as she began her drive back to Mobile.  This would be our last night in Pensacola, so we took the kids to a place called Laguna’s Bar and Grill – where there was also a zip-line, go-carts, and a few climbing courses.  Nothing like some good, old-fashioned activities that will wear the kids out before getting up early the next day to pack and leave paradise.

Playtime!

The kids enjoyed their time in the park.  We enjoyed a few frosty beverages from the bar and ended up meeting a family from Lawrence that were in Pensacola for a dance competition.  We have always found it amazing that no matter how far we go from home, there is always someone around with a tie to home.

After wearing out the kids and our pocketbook, we stopped at Ron Jon’s again and Alvin’s Island for a little shopping.  At Alvin’s Island, I stayed in the car.  We finally got back around 11 PM EST and cleaned up a little, then zonked out.
